A story all too familiar

It seems that every newspaper has that quiet, unassuming employee who has been around for years and seems like a fixture at the paper.  Someone who never complains and greets everyone with a smile or a kind word.  At the Chicago Tribune that person was security guard Wendell Smothers.  Laid off eight months ago, Wendell Smothers was recently found dead in his home, apparently from heart disease.  Here’s a link to the Romenesko story:
